Arkansas Man Nabs $10,500 in Hollister
Playing the same first digits in Missouri's Club Keno game paid off for an Arkansas grocer when he played a six-spot game with the Bulls-Eye and won $10,500. William "Bill" Edwards, 58, of Harrison, Ark., said he went to The Spirits Shop in Hollister on Aug. 7 to "socialize and shop." While there, he played Club Keno using all numbers that started with the digit "3" and ended up winning thousands. The winning numbers were: 32, 33, 35, 37, 38 and 39.
Edwards, who owns Edwards' Grocery Store in Harrison, Ark., said he was watching the drawing on the monitor and he knew right away he won. When the Bulls-Eye, 39, was selected, he was really excited.
"I hollered out, 'I got one!'" he said.
Edwards said he plans to use his prize money for a trip to Tunica, Miss., or a trip to Kansas City.
Club Keno began in May 2002. Players can win from $1 to $100,000 per $1 ticket per drawing. Players who use Bulls-Eye could win between $2 and $50 for matching just the Bulls-Eye number and as much as $300,000 by matching all 10 numbers, including the Bulls-Eye number, in a 10-spot $1 game. St. John's feeling lucky after Keno wins
Donna Murphy and Heather Johnson
St. John's , Nfld. and Lab.
$25,000
Donna Murphy and Heather Johnson of St. John's, Nfld. and Lab., have never met, but the two women have something in common. Both women became big Keno winners within a day of each other, and about one week after a $125,000 Keno winner in the area.
Donna Murphy won $25,000 playing Keno on July 30. Ms. Murphy credited her win to lucky circumstances and good timing. She used smaller prizes she had won on other tickets to buy a $20 ticket instead of her usual $2 bet.
"I am very lucky, this is a nice amount to win," said Ms. Murphy, who has been playing Keno for one year. "It was a nice feeling to deposit the money in the bank."
Ms. Murphy plans to purchase a second vehicle with her windfall. The winning ticket was purchased at Mainway Irving on Torbay Road in St. John's.
Heather Johnson won $10,400 playing Keno on July 31. Mrs. Johnson has won smaller prizes before but this is the regular player's first big win. She has been playing the same numbers for two years and said, "I thought I would win something sooner or later, but this win was quite a surprise."
Mrs. Johnson plans to use her prize to help her mother pay for a new deck, fix up her own home, and her stepson will benefit from the win with some dental work.
"This money will be a big help. I'm going to use it on the everyday things that need to be done, that we can't always find the money for," she said.
Mrs. Johnson's winning ticket was purchased at the Irving Mainway on Elizabeth Avenue, in St. John's
St. John's seems to be on a winning streak recently; Mrs. Johnson's and Ms. Murphy's wins come one week after a $125,000 Keno win in St. John's.
